Audemars Piguet At The Basel Art Exhibition In 2019–The New Living Room Created By Designer Fernando Marstrand Holo

As a global partner of Art Basel since 2013, Swiss luxury watch Audemars Piguet announced that its new concept design of the living room will be unveiled at the 2019 Basel Art Exhibition, Basel and Miami Beach. Fernando Mastrangelo, a sculpture artist, and designer from Brooklyn, created the new Basel Art Collection Collector’s Living Room for Audemars Piguet, creating an immersive experience for the viewer as if the brand was located in the Swiss Jura The birthplace of the mountains.

Fernando Mastrangelo is good at using everyday materials such as salt, sand, and cement to create sculptures that blend art and design. The new living room is called The Vallée. With smooth gradients and textures, it makes the viewer feel like they are at the birthplace of a brand in the Swiss Jura Mountains. Inspired by Vallée, this space reveals the purity of nature and the passing of time by separating, reorganizing the unique elements of the local landscape. By deconstructing and reorganizing nature, while cleverly using the geographical indications of time, he constructed the dialogue between the past and the present.

In this regard, Fernando Mastrangelo explained: “I not only want to think about time from a linear perspective but also the passage of time. I hope to feel the time from the perspective of geography. The time spent is analogous to the time it takes to make an Audemars Piguet watch. By understanding the history and philosophy of the brand, I am delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Audemars Piguet and other brands that share my beliefs”.

The stratum wall of collector’s living room seems to be the result of deconstructing and magnifying the Combe Noire quarry in the Vallée. This living room reveals five basic elements of brand’s latest collection: gold, brass, lapis lazuli, sapphire crystal and iron, which reminds us of the long history of brand in the valley and the precision of fine watches. Fernando Mastrangelo’s in-depth exploration of the geological formation of the valley extends to the chandeliers made of coarsely culminated glass, drawing on the limestone stalactites of the Vallorbe cave in Switzerland. This art space, built with natural rock, invites viewers to experience the extraordinary craftsmanship of Audemars Piguet’s fine watchmaking through his craftsmanship and design presented.

The living room will provide a small space designed for viewers, where they can relax and experience the tranquil beauty of the valley at sunset. The architectural design of this area combines round and octagonal elements inspired by the sophisticated and complex geometry of Audemars Piguet’s latest CODE11.59.

In 2019, the collector’s living room will appear at the three major exhibitions of Art Basel and continue to evolve and innovate in 2020.
